NASA Awards SBIR Phase I Contract to Develop Single-Chip DC-DC Converters for Harsh Environments

Alphacore will develop its digitally controlled, high switching rate, digital hysteresis based DC-DC converter suitable for space and harsh environment applications. Alphacore’s CMOS-based Rad Hard by Design (RHBD), digital-intensive, single-chip DC-DC converter product will have the following features: a) support up to 4.5V input supply and 4A of load current; b)  achieve 10MHz switching rate; c) digital slow-start (SS) option; and d) digitally controlled regulation loop parameters, including switching speed, hysteresis window, settling time. This new technology will result in a significant decrease in size, weight, and power needed by future spacecraft. The converter will be an ideal solution for large defense aerospace, and unmanned systems companies that have radiation hard power management concerns.
